FPP NZ Wren And A Forgotten Badger

The Tartankiwi FPP Pattern Testing by www.madebyChrissieD.com

What a sweet line-up of FPP patterns I'm sharing today.

Juliet @The Tartankiwi is working on a series of FPP birds and, this week, I've tested two versions of her NZ Wren.

As I always say, don't be scared of foundation paper piecing (FPP) - jump in and have a go and you'll soon get the hang of it and love the results.  Again, not all FPP patterns are equal.  There's a lot to be said for a well-designed pattern, it makes life soooo much easier for the sewist and produces fabulous results and, for me, Juliet is the Queen of FPP design and her patterns are thoroughly tested before they are made available to purchase.

See how I colour my FPP sections - it makes it really easy to know which fabric to use where.

I have lots of FPP tips to help you and you can find them all along with many more useful tutorials by clicking the button below.

When the NZ Wren pattern is released it will include 6" and 12" versions of both a left and right facing wren.  There are also two versions of one section of the pattern allowing you to chose between an NZ Wren on a rock or an NZ Wren on a pole.

Juliet asked me to test the 12" left facing NZ Wren on a pole.

If you make several birds on a pole they'll all line up.  I believe Juliet is placing all birds in her new blocks in the same position so you can have different types of birds lined up on that pole too - how cute will that be?!

The pole version of the NZ Wren doesn't look right with the other FPP blocks I've already made for a quilt top I'm working on so, after I'd tested the pattern and photographed it, I replaced the pole section of the block with the alternate rock section.

As I was taking a pic of all the blocks I've made so far for that quilt top, I realised there's a block that I have quite forgotten to share with you.  It's a badger from Juliet's early FPP days, he's simple yet stunning.
