Welcome to Day 1 of the Benartex Bali Blog Hop, let me start with a great big "hi" to my regular readers and a huge welcome to anyone visiting for the first time from the Benartex blog Sew in Love {with Fabric}.
Benartex, a leading supplier of 100% designer cotton prints, have again asked me to design a block for them as part of their Bali Blog Hop and this year we're showcasing their new Balis collections.
Disclaimer:
The Bali fabrics used for the tute were supplied free of charge to mbCD by Benartex otherwise this post is informational purposes only, no payment or commission is received on click-throughs.
They're rich colour, super soft, triple dyed fabrics that will be available in the fall. The Blog Hop continues over 6 days with a new block tute and giveaway each day - today's day 1 and we'd love you to join in!!!
Let's take a look at the two bundles of Balis I've been given to work with:
The first bundle is from the Dolce Balis by Benartex collection;
and the second bundle is from the Rio Balis by Benartex collection.
The first bundle is from the Dolce Balis by Benartex collection;
and the second bundle is from the Rio Balis by Benartex collection.
Each block is created identically - I've purposely left seamed sections in the white areas rather than changing the piecing sizes across the three blocks as I think this creates assonance across the quilt and provides texture that can be enhanced in the quilting.
If you'd like to make my Kukulcan blocks click through to the Benartex blog Sew in Love {with Fabric} - my free tute is available there.
And now for a giveaway - everyone loves a giveaway right?!
The winner of the 12 Bali fat quarters is KC who also shared with us her favourite holiday choice is home but that she has Hawaii and Aruba, Australia and New Zealand on her bucket list. KC that green and purple bundle really was calling your name and is heading your way direct from Benartex along with the other bundle too.
Many congratulations KC, I've sent you an email asking for your snail mail address so be sure to check your junk folder if it isn't in your inbox. You'll have to let us know what you make with your new fabrics too :D
9 May: Chris Dodsley that's me, and you're already here @made by ChrissieD!!!
10 May: Stephanie @Stitched Together Studios
11 May: Benartex Blog Design Team
12 May: Kirsten @KD Quilts
13 May: Alison @Little Bunny Quilts
14 May: Debby @Debby Kratovil Quilts
If you want to know how to make my Kukulcan block and other great blocks too head over to the Benartex's Sew in Love with Fabric blog each day, up to and including Saturday, 14 May 2016 to check out that day's tute and for a fresh chance each day to win 12 Bali fat quarters at each blog on the schedule.
And just for fun I've put together a couple of Sampler Quilt images:
the first is a 9 block quilt measuring 36" x 36" using each of the 3 Kukulcan blocks in all 3 colours that I used for today's tute over on the Sew in Love {with Fabric} blog
and the second is a 36 block quilt that measures 72" x 72" made using all 12 of the Balis from the Dolce and Rio collections that are in the above bundle photos.
If you do make the blocks please drop me a line with a pic, I love to see what you make from my tutes and share them on the blog or on the made by ChrissieD facebook page.
Clicking on an image will take you to a new page of crafty goodness :)
