June Progress & News

Did I blink and miss June?!

Let's see what I've been working on.
You can click any image to go through to the post and read more:

The second edition of the brand new free e-zine Modern By The Yard is out and includes my reversible tote pattern.

I continued my Exploring Japan series - Blue & White and Nippori Textile Town then took a trip to the new look Pins & Needles fabric store on Manhattan's Upper East Side and to Purl Soho in Soho!

You can find all my Exploring posts here on these two blog pages.

Did you see my announcement that I'm one of 3 contenders in Quilt Match during The Quilt Alliance's Quilters Take Manhattan main event at FIT, Manhattan on Saturday, 24 September?

Eagle eyed readers may have spotted at the bottom of my blog's right hand sidebar that I've joined the Craft Industry Alliance.

I made 9 blocks for #QuiltsForPulse - 3 heart blocks for Quilts for A Cause and 6 Rainbow Strip blocks for the NYC Metro MOD Quilt Guild quilt donation.

There were 2 made by ChrissieD newsletters in June - if you missed them here's links so you can catch up:

If you'd like to subscribe to have future newsletters email directly to you, you can do so here - and, I'd love it if you'd let your friends know too :D

Flicky and I went to the NYC Metro MOD Quilt Guild's summer retreat at Ladore in Waymart, Pennsylvania and had a wonderful time.  Flicky pattern tested my reversible tote bag pattern for Modern By The Yard e-zine and made this fab bag that she hand embroidered.

I quilted my Giant HST quilt (here's the tute) but I rushed it and I'm really not happy with my stitching.  I'll sit on it for a bit before binding it, there's a chance I'll requilt the whole thing.  I'll also confess that it was a devil to baste - that lawn fabric on the back didn't want to lie flat and gave my resident basting helper, Simon and I some grief.  When I finished quilting the whole flaming thing I realised I'd sewn the lawn back to front to the other backing section and never noticed and so I'd basted and quilted it like that.  You know if it took me that long to notice the fabric was back to front maybe I'll just leave it that way!

After rushing quilting the Giant HST quilt there was still some retreat time for me to start quilting my Aviatrix quilt.  Really happy with how it's going so far but it'll take some time to complete as I'm not intending to rush this one and with all the other projects I'm working on right now it won't be finished any time soon.

I added a label to my Could You Live Here quilt in June and gifted it to my good friend Wendy - I shared the story of our friendship with you on the blog a couple of weeks ago.

And I've also been working hard on several projects for Christmas in July.  I'm involved in three separate blog hops and most of my time this month has been taken with making items for them.  I haven't even started to write the blog posts yet, hoping to get at least one of them in the can by the end of this week!  Here's a sneak peek at the fabrics I'm working with to whet your appetite ;D

Late June I grabbed lunch with Sarah who blogs at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, it was our first time meeting up, she was visiting Manhattan from Nashville.  After lunch we headed down to Purl Soho together.  Lots of pics of the store to share with you at some point, no idea when I'll get around to it things are pretty chaotic in the made by ChrissieD sewing studio right now so whatever you do don't hold your breath!  Lol, turns out I published that post before this one - so here it is again!

I'll leave you with a pic of me with Sarah :D

Oh one last thing before I go - I have a question for you...

Time to take a look how my UFO/WIP List looked at the end of May;

and let's compare it with the end of June - those last 5 columns on the right are all finished work:
Completed - JuneMayApril / March / February / January

Can't get over how much I'm achieving though I'd like to move more of the WIP/UFOs to the completed side rather than adding newly completed projects.  I'm using the web app Trello, a digital notebook, you can read more about it here in my January Progress Report.

and here's my updated UFO/WIP list at end June 2016
I'll carry on including the list in this format too so you can click through to the blog posts and read more but I'll also include my Trello boards because these are such a great visual of my progress.

  1. I joined a "Works in Progress" challenge at my LQS this year. And while I handsew, and am nowhere near going to be done with my ten projects, I have gotten farther than I would have without the monthly sew-ins.

  2. You manage to do so much each month Chrissie, I feel guilty that I don't do enough sometimes but I don't think I could ever achieve so much in one month!

  3. Never thought to look back over the month to see what I have done, a good idea as sometimes think I do a lot of nothing, lol.
