It feels like forever since I had some sewing I could actually share with you and that doesn't need to be kept secret - the thing is I wish there was no reason for me to be making today's blocks at all. They're #QuiltsForPulse blocks; the quilting community led by the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild has come out in force to make quilts for those affected by the recent terrible events in Orlando, Florida.
I'm working with two groups: the first is Quilting For A Cause organised by Diane Bohn of From Blank Pages. Diane has set up this Facebook group for quilters to come together to make charity quilts: individual members of the Modern Quilt Guild; anyone who isn't a member of another quilt guild; and anyone else who simply wants to get involved or needs help providing quilts for a charity/cause.
These three blocks are foundation paper pieced hearts and will be part of this amazing Love is Made of Hearts quilt designed by Diane.
If you'd like to find out more about the Quilting For A Cause group and maybe get involved this post on Diane's blog explains everything.
My blocks are ready to post off to Diane and I've included a piece of The City Quilter's NYC subway fabric to say thanks for all her amazing work in creating this quilt and the charity group.
The second group I'm working with is my own guild - the NYC Metro MOD Quilt Guild. Our current charity block just happens to be Rainbow Strips.
Instructions:
Rainbow Strip Stash Buster Block
stick to one rainbow colour only in each block;
join strips - wonky or straight;
then trim to 6" x 8" blocks with strips in either direction.
A simple, fast and great stash buster block, it didn't take long to sew up these six and the blocks will now be pieced together into a heart quilt and sent off to the Orlando MQG.
