My September Bee Block(s) - Yes, There's Two Of Them!

September Bee Block time!

My September Queen Bee is Nicole, and she's asked us to make one or two modern sampler blocks of our choice in red and white with just "a very small bit of cheddar" yellow; here are her instructions.

Now's the time to check out all those images I've put on my Pinterest Quilty - Block Inspiration board - keep adding things to my boards and hardly ever do anything with them!  I chose two blocks which I then adapted slightly to incorporate the Cheddar Yellow fabric:

Block 1 (original block tutorial:

Block 2 (original block tutorial: X Marks The Spot block from SewCraftyJess)

I straightened up the half square triangles using a Bloc-Loc - they're amazing.  If you've never used one, then be sure to check out my tutorial.

So another tremendous fun month, and again I'm sure the finished quilt will look amazing.  I've posted the blocks to the NYC Mod Guild Blog, and you can take a look here.

    1. At first I wasn't sure that I liked that fabric but it really makes the blocks sing - they'd be quite flat without it :)

    1. So worth it Cynthia. I love everything about being in a Bee: from anticipating the fabric arriving; opening the package; touching the sent fabric; reading what's required; planning the block; panicking about cutting someone else's fabric; worrying that I'll mess it all up; making the block; posting the package back; wondering if Queen Bee will approve; blogging about it; getting the Queen Bee's feedback; checking out what everyone else has made; and eventually seeing the finished quilt.

Phew, I'm tired now just reading that list - but it's so much fun and you get to use fabrics/colours you wouldn't ever choose for yourself and it challenges you to try new methods and block designs.

If you get the chance I'd recommend you give it a go :)

    2. OK, you may have convinced me! Glad I clicked back on this link through the Monday linkup... otherwise I wouldn't have seen your reply!

    3. You've convinced me too Cynthia. I love seeing comments and replies on blogs so I've been using that method of communication rather than email (as blogger doesn't seem to provide a way of doing both simultaneously :( ).

I've been thinking this over for quite a while and, as I don't have that many comments to reply to, I'm going to start copying my blog post responses into an email and sending them off that way as well - to cover both options!

We'll see how it goes :)
