Well, could you? I love Manhattan but it's not for everyone - Gossip Girl, Sex And The City and The Real Housewives Of New York City it certainly isn't and everyone I know is more interested in good walking shoes than red sole Louboutins.
Love it or hate it - someone you know may enjoy this city quilt. It's a store sample I've made for a possible class at The City Quilter, the pattern, designed by Sarah @Quilt Candy - now known as Sarah Ashford Studios, is available to purchase at the CQ store as are the CQ exclusive fabrics I've used to make it.
This is CQ's exclusive Susy's New York fabric - you may remember it's sister fabric Susy's Paris that I used for my QAYG Wholecloth Strippy Quilt earlier this year.
Here you can better see the four front fabrics:
New York Line by Line - Day (CQ exclusive)
New York Line by Line - Night (CQ exclusive) (top and binding)
New York City Subway Map - Black (CQ exclusive)
Blank Quilting - Signature Collection Headliner fabric
I made the quilt in May 2013 and finally finished binding it in 2014.
The pattern is made up of 234 squares and the finished quilt size is approx 39" x 54".

You can read the story behind Sarah designing the quilt here on Quilt Story too.
I have now gifted this quilt to special friends who were leaving NYC to start the next stage of their lives in Australia. You can read the story of our friendship and see the quilt's label here in my Sadly Gifting My Could You Live Here? Quilt post.
gorgeous design and beautiful quilt. I like how the front is neutral but the back is bright and colorful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa, Sarah's design is so simple yet iconic which I think gives it great impact - Chris :D
Deletewhat a great quilt. I love the backing as well. I think I would love to live in NY - for a while, anyway!
ReplyDeleteLove your fabric choices and your pictures are perfect!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really great quilt! I visited NYC briefly a few years ago when my son was stationed at Ft Dix NJ for pre-deployment. We had a whirlwind two days amidst a blizzard. I'd like to go back someday when the weather is better. It was a bit of a shock to this rural Alabama girl's senses! (But we loved it all except for the blizzard part).
ReplyDeleteOkay, I need to tell you how fantastic that first photo is!!! Wow! The quilt is also noteworthy, but that shot is so perfect it deserves a comment, too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Carole, the pics are taken on my roof garden, I don't think I'll ever tire of that view - Chris :D
DeleteWOW - what amazing idea!! Georgious!

I've never been to New York, but I know I love this reversible quilt. What fantastic fabric. Wonderful job once again.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is great, I like the contrast between front and back and your pics are awesome as usual :)
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job in finding fabrics whose subject matched the subject of the quilt so well. From a distance it's stunning, but close up it's fascinating.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty quilt. I live in a town of 700 in Northwest Iowa and don't like being around crowds. I think NY would be a fun place to visit for a day or two, but I think I'd ever be able to handle living in such a crowded place.
ReplyDeleteI am! I'm from WNY (home of the Blizzard) and my daughter is in NJ so we meet in the city every year. I love it but too busy to live there for me. LOVE LOVE the NY fabrics, I have never seen them before. Must hunt them down. Your quilt is perfect to showcase these beautiful prints
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics are, in the main, exclusive to The City Quilter in Manhattan, they have a whole range of exclusive New York fabrics and they're happy to ship worldwide - Chris :D
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a truly gorgeous little quilt! I do love N.Y. when I can see it through your eyes, Chrissie. Those fabrics are PERFECT for this design. Love the little pops of colour in the black fabric used in the front of the quilt and how that backing fabric picks up on this and runs with it. Love it!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. Of course those fabrics are perfect. I love New York, but I don't know that I could love there. lol. I have always had a blast every time I am a tourist though. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, NYC...how I love thee! I always imagine myself a big city gal, but I think in the end I'd end up missing the suburbs. Maybe when I was in my 20s... A girl can dream.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt, and it gives me an idea for a quilt of my own, so thank you for the inspiration as well!
Gorgeous quilt and the view of the city is amazing! I don't think I could live in NYC, but what a fabulous place to visit!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great homage to NY! It's been years since I was in NYC but I remember loving it! Probably why I was also draw to San Francisco, I love big city living!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that quilt and the fabric range is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, Chrissie! Great photos too! Love, love, love those fabrics! While I might not make a I heart NY quilt exactly, I'm totally wanting those fabrics. I love subway line fabrics!
ReplyDeleteThank you, the City Quilter have a whole range of exclusive New York fabrics and they're happy to ship worldwide - Chris :D

ReplyDeleteLove this quilt, the design and the fabrics! What a fun quilt.
ReplyDeleteIncredibly unique!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is gorgeous, as usual. I like how it's so bright on one side and black and white on the other. I have been to NYC only twice but I will quite often say to my OH I'm unhomesick. Meaning I wish I was back in New York.
ReplyDeleteAli xx
Thanks Ali, before I lived here New York was one of only two holiday destinations I'd visited that I wanted to return to, the other being Iceland and I'm so happy I get to live here now - Chris :D

ReplyDeletelove the quilt !!! both sides are fantastic .....
I am fortunate enough to get the opportunity to work in NYC for 8-10 days for the past 7 years at the NYC Toy Fair. It is given me a unique perspective to see the city as a little more than just a tourist would. We work long days, but do get some time to explore just a bit. I will have to put the City Quilter on my list of places to visit on my next trip! Your quilt is beautiful, the exclusive fabrics are great!
