Sewing Room Mug Rug Tute for Benartex

Welcome to Day 1 of the Benartex Mug Rug Blog Hop.

Disclosure/Disclaimer:
Sewing Room fabric used for making the mug rug and the FQ bundle giveaway is supplied by Benartex for the purposes of the blog hop and at no cost to mbCD; all other materials are my own.  In all other respects, this post is for informational purposes only, and no payment or commission is received on click-throughs to links shared.

If you haven't visited Benartex's Sew in Love {with Fabric} blog yet today, then let me introduce you to the Sewing Room fabric collection by Amanda Murphy of Amanda Murphy Designs for Benartex.

The Sewing Room collection of 28 fabrics includes spools, scissors, dresses, tape measures and more.  The sewing machine fabrics are available in two versions WITH and WITHOUT the Bernina logo text (you'll see the version I'm using does have the word Bernina typed on the machines) - the Bernina logo version is available ONLY from authorised Bernina dealers.  All fabrics in the collection are 100% cotton.

SEWING ROOM MUG RUG
When Benartex asked me to create a mug rug tute for their Mug Rug Blog Hop, I knew I wanted to work with the Sewing Room line.  I'd already spotted it on their website and fallen in love with those Bernina sewing machines and Aurifil thread spools - two of my fave sewing items; I'm not known as a #Berninagirl and #Aurifilgirl for nothing!

I fussy cut from the fabric the machine that's closest to my own Bernina 440 and placed it alongside a strip of the fussy-cut tape measure and some fussy-cut Aurifil thread spools - I was very "fussy" ;D

And on the back, I included the selvedge strip text 'Sewing Room'; it's just too wonderful not to make good use of it.

The Sewing Room Mug Rug is the perfect size for a mug of your favourite beverage and a handful of delicious biscuits or cookies or even a slice of cake - just what you need to give you an energy boost before you carry on stitching your latest project.

As you can see, I also made the Sewing Room Mug Rug to perfectly fit my tiny tea tray - it was a gift from my friend Susan Sato @Easy Piecing.  Susan sells the trays as part of a Sashiko kit, and originally it was brown, but I've given it a lick of white chalk paint to match my own decor.

Reports that the cup of coffee and chocolate Hob Nobs were well dunked and consumed the moment the photoshoot was over are indeed correct.   You can't beat a good old English biccie, and I thank the biccie angels continually for supplying this staple English food, albeit in the 'foreign food' aisle, in the supermarket next to my apartment here in the States.

If you haven't experienced an English chocolate Hob Nob, then you really don't know what you're missing, and I suggest should the opportunity ever arise that you grab it with both hands and dunk that Hob Nob in the nearest hot cuppa and enjoy.  To illustrate how the Hob Nob is the King of English biscuits, you may enjoy this video clip of Peter Kay, a northern English stand-up comedian, demonstrating the dunking power of said biscuit.

Get The Tute
When you've enjoyed the pics and entered the giveaway, you'll want to click over to the Benartex Sew in Love {with Fabric} blog, where my photo tute will guide you through making up your own version of the mug rug.

Single Fold Binding Tute
Over on the Benartex Sew in Love {with Fabric} blog, I mentioned that I bound my mug rug with a single fold binding - click the image below to access my Single Fold Binding Tute, the perfect 1/4" finished binding for mug rugs and other small projects.

  41. Wonderful tutorial and lovely fabric. I also love the little tea tray. Great idea. Seems like every sewing room should have one of these, with a mug rug from these fabrics.

Favorite tool in my sewing room? My rotary cutter is probably my most used, which I wouldn't want to create with out. But I also have a pair of snippet scissors that I keep by my machine and absolutely love.

  151. I just found your blog via the Sew in Love (with Fabric) blog. I'm a Bernina (330) and Aurifil girl, too. Your mug rug is very cute and I love how it fits in your little tray.
My (current) favorite notion is my magnetic pin holder (red and heart-shaped, so it's functional and pretty). My favorite sort-of notion is my empty Godiva chocolate box. If you like chocolate, be sure to purchase a box of chocolates (or better yet, truffles) when you get a chance. The chocolate is delicious and the boxes are good sizes and pretty sturdy. I keep one near my machine and it holds things like scissors, seam ripper, tweezers, nail file, etc. It keeps those smaller things corralled at my sewing area and when I travel with my machine, the lid goes on and it fits right on top of my machine in the machine case.
