Is That A Dog In A Pram???!!!!!!

View out to the Empire State
I just have to share today's news with you all.  Since last November, I have been walking miles each day to improve my health.  I had an idea that it would be nice to have a dog to walk with me and hence the arrival of Thatcher, known as Tatty to her friends.  Unfortunately Tatty isn't quite so keen on the idea of walking as I am.  By the time we've trotted to the lift, gone down 23 floors and crossed the lobby of our apartment building Tatty's tired and ready to go home.

It's been such a disappointment for me, she's at home and I'm still out walking alone but I had an idea - let's get a dog pram.  Hubby, S, took quite some convincing, it's not something that you'd want to be seen with in England - you'd be laughed at in the street, but we'll be walking around Manhattan, Hoboken and Jersey City and here, anything goes.

So the pram, a top of the range Pet Gear AT3 Generation 2 All-Terrain Pet Stroller arrived today and we were straight out of the door to enjoy the lovely weather and do a bit of shopping in Hoboken.  Tatty took turns at walking and then riding in the pram when she was tired and best of all she loved it.  A few people did do a double take, a woman in a car was heard saying "did you see that dog in a carriage?".  Meeting up with us on her way home from school, our daughter, F, completely disowned us but I don't care, we'll be out again in the morning doing a good 5 miles, Tatty and me, the two of us together.  Lovely x

I'm very pleased to be able to report that Tatty graduated from her pram later in 2012 and has been happily walking on all four legs ever since!!! :D

  1. Wow, I found someone in New Jersey (near me) that quilts and blogs about it!!! I knew it when I saw the Empire State Building and downtown Jersey City (I used to live there). I'm in Union County. Hope to run into you sometime! Mike. http://amateurquilter.blogspot.com

    1. It's great to catch up with like-minded people isn't it?! I'd never quilted before I moved to America but there's no stopping me now, it's addictive and the quilting world is so friendly. Loving it!

  2. Chrissie you rock! I just got back to running this week and wish I had a dog :) It's a great idea that you got a stroller for your four legged friend, at least he gets out with you too!

    1. We're loving it Kati - I'm picking her up from the dog minder this afternoon and with today's thunderstorms I'm so glad I've got the pram and that I thought to buy the raincover for it also, poor little Tatty would be washed away with it!

  3. I have one of those too....my Dashchund loves it. It's the only way I can get her to go on a walk with me. Of course, she gets out when I'm on my way home, so she gets a little exercise

    1. Absolutely Linda, a dog trainer we know thought the pram would stop her walking altogether but I'm finding she's walking more, asking to get in and out throughout our journey. I'm wondering if eventually there'll be more walking than riding as her confidence grows and at least now she's getting out in the fresh air. Funny that you say your Dashchund will walk home - Tatty's the same, she only ever wants to walk towards our apartment, never away from it.

    1. Hi Helen, wow another New Jerseyian. I'm so new to the US, let alone NJ & NY that I've not ventured outside Manhattan, Hoboken and Newport/Jersey City yet, I'm still exploring my neighbourhood and there's sooo much to do! We keep saying that we'll travel down the coast - it's on our 'to do' list so you might well find us down your way yet!

  5. How cute! I first saw a woman walking with a dog in a pram/stroller when I was in Santa Fe. At first I thought was this dog a bit too snooty to walk or did the dog have an ailment? Then woman pushing the stroller smiled and said she was able to get around town without having to worry about her dog getting tired or the traffic. I had no idea they made such things, but the more I thought about it I thought it was really a great idea. Your dog is so cute.

    1. There's so many benefits to having the pram, others being in the summer heat and winter snow when the hard ground burns their paws at least we can still get our two out, Also we don't have a car and animals aren't allowed on the PATH public transport unless in a fastened carrier - well I can't carry one of them in a carrier, let alone our two dogs so the pram is just perfect and they sit in there together and the front cover zips around and it becomes a carrier on wheels.

Tatty can happily walk much further now but we still have the pram for these times when we've no choice but to use it - I will admit though I'm glad I don't have suffer the daily embarrassment of people's looks and comments any more! :D
