Confetti For A Spring Wedding? - No It's My April Bee Block

My NYC Metro Mod Guild April Queen Bee is my good friend Maren @The Agitprop Quilter.

Take a look at the fabric package that arrived in the mail.

 Maren asked us to make a Confetti Block using a pattern from the book Block Party: The Modern Quilting Bee "Megan's Quilt - Party of Twelve"

And here's the finished block.

 This was such a fun and easy block to put together.  Just put white borders around the sections of colour and then add more white strips to join them together in a 13.5" block.

This is going to be a really fun, crisp quilt when it's finished.

Another Week In Manhattan

Thursday - morning coffee with Christopher Columbus at his apartment on Columbus Circle.  If you're around NYC anytime through to 18 November be sure to visit this free exhibition - the artist Tatzu Nishi has built a temporary apartment around the Christopher Columbus statue on Columbus Circle and you can go up into the apartment and stay for half an hour.  Christopher is standing on his own coffee table!  For free timed tickets here's the link.

Saturday -
First meeting of the year for NYC Metro Modern Quilt Guild.  Good to finally put faces to people I've been chatting to via the blog and to meet everyone.  I took along my Dad's Memory Quilt to share in 'Show and Tell' and the group were so encouraging when they saw it.  You can see my quilt and all the other great quilts by following the link below (Mum - if you're reading this do just don't follow the link x).

If you followed the link did you spot Lisa's 'Triangles Galore' quilt which includes my July Bee Block?  Well Lisa has finished her quilt now and you can read all about it here on her blog The Red Headed Mermaid.  I love that I can see my block in so many of the photos - the yellow star with a sky blue surround!!!

and here's are challenge for our December meeting - it's 1/30th of a Kandinsky painting and I can reproduce it in any media - paint/paper/fabric/etc and it doesn't have to be washable.

 And finally, here's my photos of Denyse's quilts that were on display at the event, so inspiring and a real treat to see her fabric choices, the textures, piecing and quilting up close.  Each of the quilts is featured in her book Denyse Schmidt: Modern Quilts, Traditional Inspiration (that's the book - detailing how to make 20 beautiful quilts - that I picked up at the event and detailed in my top 'Event Goodies' photo).  You can find out more about Denyse at her website and facebook page Denyse Schmidt Quilts.

I love, love, love this quilt - it so makes me think about the Modern Sampler Block quilt that we've been making this month for our NYC Mod Queen Bee Nicole (My September Bee Block(s) - Yes, There's Two Of Them! and Pinterest: Quilty - Modern Sampler Blocks).  I particularly enjoy the small details of patterned fabric in amongst the solids.

Again - it's all in the detail - small areas of colour and pattern in an otherwise black and white quilt.

Finally, here's just a handful of the 'Home Is Where The Quilt Is' entrants that were on display at FIT.  The rest were on display at The City Quilter and, unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me when I nipped in for one of my many visits of the week on Thursday.  I promise that if any of the 'houses' are still on display next time I'm in I'll take photos to share with you.  If you don't want to wait then you can see all the entries here on The Quilt Alliance website and you can also see the winners detailed here.

Project Update And Shout Out For The Agitprop Quilter

 Quick update on my two ongoing projects:

Here's a photo taken at my Manhattan LQS of me and my Double Irish Chain quilt.  Need to order some white batting before I can sandwich the quilt though - I think the white blocks are sooo very white that the natural cream coloured batting that I usually use may dirty its appearance.

Making good progress with my Dad's Memory Quilt - I've finished half of the top sheet and 3/4 of the backing sheet.  Regular followers will know the drill by now 

"I can't post any photos of my Dad's Memory Quilt on my blog as it's a present for my Mum and she wants it to be a surprise so again I've posted some photos to my facebook page as my Mum doesn't have facebook and can't see it there."
