Just Another Class Sample Quilt

Finished my sample for an upcoming class I'm teaching in Manhattan.

Jelly Roll Quilt, The City Quilter, Manhattan - $70
Held over 3 weekly sessions Thursday, 5, 12, 19 Feb 2015
12 noon to 2.00 pm

Using 2.5" strips we'll learn a super fast Half Square Triangle (HST) method and use these to create a stunning quilt top with border.  During class we're aiming to finish the quilt top but some students may progress further towards making the full quilt.  Open to all levels but must know how to use a rotary cutter and sewing machine and sew an accurate ¼” seam.

Contact store to register.

I've no idea what the strip fabrics are - they were put together by my friend Mallory over a year ago but I did pick the border and backing fabrics:
Dear Stella Paloma Stripe Citron #214
Blue-Green Istanbul from the Passport collection by Modern Quilt Studio for Andover Fabrics
Dogma Bubbles Teal by David Hearn for In The Beginning fabrics

I've found some photos I took along the way which are always interesting to share.

Making layout choices.

Planning borders and binding.

And then the finished quilt,

pieced back,

red dots popping in the border,

one direction diagonal quilting,

yellow striped binding,

and, finally, the quilt roll.

The weather's too cold and damp to take outside photos so I'm trying to make use of what little daylight there is by my floor to ceiling windows.  This, of course, means I have a couple of little helpers always willing to test drive any quilt that hits the floor.

So I told Tatty and Watson to leave the quilt alone while I was taking photos and when I turned around they were both watching from the chair behind me.

So the quilt's off to hang in the store where the class is being held, if you've registered for the class we'll have a lot of fun along the way and I'm looking foward to meeting you :D

No Bind Baby Quilt - Fall Class In Manhattan

I've got a very busy September lined up starting with a business trip to Phoenix next week ('to do' recommendations welcome), then I'm heading off to Seville for a few weeks in October to meet a very special-to-me young man who's making his first appearance at any moment over the next 4 weeks.

With no time to spare I needed to crack on and finish my November 'No Bind Baby Quilt' class sample ready for display at The City Quilter in the Manhattan quilt store where I'm teaching.  It's a really quick make and my students can look forward to taking home their very own finished version of the quilt at the end of the day.

THE PHOTOSHOOT:

No front or back to this quilt, both sides are equally wonderful.

It's a great way to showcase favourite fabric designs you just can't bear to cut into.

I've couldn't resist these two Cloud9 fabrics when they arrived in the store, they're both from the new Lotus Pond collection by Rae Hoekstra.

Meadow Blossoms (blue)

Lotus Drop (turquoise)

Simple straight line quilting doesn't detract from the main player - the fabric (Aurifil 50/2 thread - White #2024).

My label detail

Finished quilt size - 34.5" x 45" makes this a perfect baby, child or lap quilt - great for gifting.

Couldn't decide which side I preferred for this rolled shot so here's both!

Thanks to those Cloud9 organic fabrics the quilt's super silky soft and snuggly.

What's Your Hobby? - Fall Class In Manhattan

I'm just loving the fabric I've used for this sample cushion for my next class at The City Quilter in Manhattan - it's Trèfle Sewing Room by Kokka Japan.

I did fussy cut it quite a bit,

"What Is Your Hobby?"

Home for a month from uni my daughter, Flicky, has trialled my class pattern for me and gone cushion crazy making these three fab versions of the class cushion ready to move into her new home in St Andrews, Scotland in September - you might want to take a look at the 'castle' she lived in for the last year!

The class pattern is a modified quicker and easier version of the tute here on my blog, and Flicky's gone a step further customising the quilting on each cushion perfectly for her chosen fabrics - scrummy Kokka, Echino, Essex Linen and 3 fabrics from the new brand new Cotton + Steel collection.
