Hallowe'en Eyes: SFMQG - August BOM

Halloween Eyes by www.madebyChrissieD.com

Yay, I made it to my second South Florida Modern Quilt Guild meeting and it's certainly reigniting my sewing mojo.

The August BOM caught my attention - it's a Hallowe'en kind of block; lime-green, orange and purple eyes on a black background.

HALLOWE'EN EYES BLOCK

For those not familiar with BOMs (in the NYC MQG we called it the Block Lotto) - the idea is that you make as many of the given Block Of the Month as you wish and take them along to the meeting.  Each block you hand in gives you one entry in the raffle and the raffle winner wins all the blocks brought along by guild members.

The only Hallowe'en item I've made previously is this mini quilt (read more here) that I hung for the first time last year.

I have some Hallowe'en panels that I've been wanting to include in a quilt for a few years now and these blocks would be a great way to build on the panels and finally make myself that seasonal quilt.

To improve my chances of winning the Eye Blocks at the September SFMQG meeting, I decided to make 3 blocks, one in each colour way.

I drew up and sewed the eyes using Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) and then free sewed the outer portions to each eye section bringing each block up to the required 12-1/2" (unfinished)/12" (finished).

Super fun, quick and easy, what a great quilt they'll make - and, though I'd love to win all the blocks, I want to wish the best of luck to all SFMQG members who take part in the BOM.

Can't wait to see the finished quilt 👀🎃👻

  1. OOOOO I love these, they look so simple but effective. You could make just a few for a wall hanging decoration but aren't they going to be an AMAZING quilt. What fun!
