QAYG Wholecloth Strippy Quilt - NYC Class Coming August 2014

I've just finished my sample quilt for the QAYG: Wholecloth Strippy Quilt class I'll be teaching at The City Quilter in Manhattan at the beginning of August.  I'm taking it into the store tomorrow to be displayed so I wanted to do its photoshoot today - the weather had other ideas but I managed to take some pics when the rain eventually stopped.

The wholecloth quilt top is the new Susy's Paris fabric exclusive to the store.

The strippy back is mainly made up of numerous P&B Textiles: Bear Essentials 2 tone on tones with a few Susy's Paris and Kaffe Fassett Spots strips.

The top of One World Trade Center is lost in misty cloud ...

... as is the rest of the Manhattan skyline.

Some extra pics just because ;D

and a glimpse at the quilting - Aurifil 50/2 #4182 - Medium Turquoise

and the binding is Kaffe Fassett - Spots Purple.

The obligatory rolled shot.

If you're visiting NYC and fancy a bit of sewing do come and join us - contact the store directly to register.

Want to learn Quilt-As-You-Go (QAYG) but don't want to have to join all those squares together afterwards? This is a machine sewn, wholecloth QAYG method using horizontal jelly roll strips on the back. It's a fast and super easy way to make a lap size quilt, perfect for babies and kids, for a friend, to brighten up a sofa or just to treat yourself. By the end of the afternoon you could even be ready to bind your finished quilt (size approx 43" x 59").
Open to all levels but must know how to use a rotary cutter and sewing machine and sew an accurate 1/4" seam.

Class Price - $70.00

If you live in the greater New York area or are making a quick visit to the Big Apple, why not join in one of my classes?  You can find details of all Spring 2015 classes I'm teaching via the 'My Classes' link in the side bar or by clicking the link button below.

    1. Thanks Jane and you're so right about the gloomy day backdrop - after I read your comment I took another look and thought it almost looks like those pictures where the majority of the pic is black and white and then just the bus or phone box is left bright red (hope you know what I'm talking about!). Those colours really do pop - Chris :D

    1. It's my third class at The City Quilter Wendy but I've been teaching privately for some time too. One World Trade Center is new - the world's fourth-tallest skyscraper and the tallest in America - the outside's finished but they're still working on the inside I believe so there's no-one using the space yet. - Chris :D

  12. Chrissie, I love the wholecloth Paris quilt. i will have to look for it and make it for my daughter who just got back from living near Paris for the last nine months. she will be going to graduate school in the fall, think it might be a nice gift for her on her new adventure. Is the fabric available for purchase? or do you have to take your class? i don't live near NYC, so am unable to take the class. thanks!

    1. Hi, I'm so glad you like the quilt and especially the Paris fabric - how perfect it would be for your daughter too. Unfortunately CQ's online store was down when I wrote this post but it's back again now so I've been able to update the post with links now for anyone wanting to purchase the fabric. CQ will deliver fabric to anywhere in the world so no worries there either - and here's the link again - Chris :D
