Tokyo Sunrise + Twilight Cushion [Zipper + Pointy Corner Removal Tutes]

My sofas have been bare of cushions for 5 years now.  That's really hard for me to admit.  I love a good cushion, I write tutes for cushions, and I used to have my own interior design company.

So how come I don't have cushions piled high on every sofa, chair and bed in my apartment?

Exploring Seattle WA - Dry Goods Design

For our second stop on my Exploring Seattle WA tour, we're calling at Dry Goods Design right on the corner of Occidental Street and Pioneer Square in downtown Seattle.

Let's walk in at the front door

immediately I'm struck by how light, airy and modern this space is.

Next, we'll walk around that pillar and take a peep at the class/work area

how many windows? how much light?

lots of lovely Berninas and a super large cutting area at a great height

and through the side windows, you can look over to Pioneer Square.

What about this area, don't you just want to sit down and stay a while?  No-one would ever mind waiting to use the irons (over on the right) with a seating area like this in the classroom!!!

So many fun details,

tons of gifts to buy and projects for inspiration,

and notions, books, and threads.

Walking towards the back of the store this fun plus quilt is hard to miss

and here's a look out from the back of the store to the front.

Fabric, you want to see more fabric?  Lots of weights and types and all the latest designers and collections, everything you could want

and yes I brought a little home with me too - well you just have to don't you?!

Everyone was lovely to me in store, taking the time to chat, discover something about me and share their stories too - that's the sign of a great fabric store for me and makes me want to go back.

Exploring Seattle WA - Undercover Quilts

End of August I tagged along with my husband on a trip to Seattle, WA then we drove down via Mt St Helens to Oregon visiting Portland, climbing waterfalls and walking on Cannon Beach.  It was another wonderful trip and, of course, I've lots of photos to share with you over several posts.

Ready to visit more scrummy fabric stores with me?

Let's start then at Undercover Quilts in downtown Seattle.

The owner, Linda, is so friendly, I could have stayed for hours chatting with her and when I left I felt like I'd known her for years, how does that happen but when it does it's very special?!  As well as selling all things quilty, fabrics, notions, patterns Linda also displays soooo many fabulous quilts around the store, everywhere you turn there's more gorgeous quilting to ooooh and ahhhhh over.  Linda stocks patterns for many of the quilts displayed and some of the quilts themselves are for sale.

On my trips to the Pacific North West I've been very taken with the designs and symbols of the PNW indiginous people and love how they're incorporated into Undercover Quilts Row by Row pattern.

Linda sells these PNW designs pre-laser cut into fusible fabric - I had to bring these three home with me so I can include them in something for my husband to remember our trips to this region this year.

Haven't though too much about a design for this project yet but I'd like to include this Seattle Map fabric (panel 22" x 36") that Linda gifted to me too.  Isn't it fabulous and it's available exclusively at Undercover Quilts. 

Now let's have a look at some of the quilts on display when I visited:

Wow to the quilt hanging on the right above - Great Wave of Puget Sound by Mary Downes and I'm totally in love with this Ferns of Hilo, also by Mary Downes in the pic below.

I think Linda told me that this quilt hanging high (pic below) is also by Mary Downes but I'm afraid I'm not 100% certain; I should have found time to write this post sooner before my failing memory got the better of me!

There were quite a few quilts with an Alice in Wonderland theme, which I particularly enjoyed as we're celebrating the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll writing Alice's Adventures in Wonderland this year.

Some great details

and texture on display.

There's just so much to see everywhere you turn.

Fabrics are organised by colour, so many batiks to choose from as well as other fabric collections...

...and yes I had to buy just a little for the stash.
