GCT Centennial Quilts - The Opening Reception

Grand Central
The city orbits around eight million centers of the universe
and turns around the golden clock at the still point of this place.
Lift up your eyes from the moving hive and you will see time circling
under a vault of stars and know just when and where you are.
Billy Collins, b. 1941

Last Tuesday I was invited to attend the Opening Reception for the Grand Central Centennial Quilts and in my last post about the winners I promised you pics

and here they are ...

that's the only photo of me on here - this selfie taken in the taxi on our way from where I work at The City Quilter, my LQS, in Manhattan up to Grand Central Terminal and with me are my wonderful girls I work with, Janell and Amy (I'm the one at the front of the pic in the orange shirt).

dropped off outside the terminal
I didn't take pics of all the quilts - to be honest, it was busy and there were people to meet and old friends to chat with so I just took pics wherever I found myself standing.  I did manage to meet a handful of the quilters present if I was lucky enough to catch them standing by their quilts.

Entering the exhibition - I'll let the quilts do the talking ...

Here's a handful of shots I took more of the exhibition rather than the quilts themselves.

Back to the quilts ...

And there's a selection of GCT/quilting related goodies for sale at the exhibition.  I recognise those fq bundles and the Grand Central Constellations Illuminated wall hanging kit!

Delighted to spot my Quilt Guild buddy, Jessica's book on sale, I recently bought Jess' book Quilting On The Go for my dil, Ana, and now she's hexie crazy too!

And of course there were goodies to take away on the night:

the latest copy of American Patchwork & Quilting

and a great brochure featuring all 30 quilts.

And now some pics of us City Quilter staffers, if you've ever been to the store you might recognise some of us!

 Tahli, Janell, and Mallory

Lisa, our NYC Metro Mod Guild president, and CQ staffer Karen

Amy, Reyna, Mallory, Lisa and Karen

And off home after a very long day, here's Dale and Cathy, The City Quilter owners (in the background to the left you can just see Nancy and Charles too).

It was a great event and us girls had a fun time followed by pizza and drinks at Two Boots on the Dining Concourse at GCT.  If you're passing through GCT I really recommend that you drop in and see the exhibition - it's displayed in The New York Transit Museum at GCT until 6 July 2014 - Mon to Fri, 8 am to 8 pm/Sat & Sun, 10 am to 6pm.

For details of other fabric, yarn, trim and notion stores that I've visited around the world along with the NYC stores I love, exhibitions and events I've attended and wonderful people I've been lucky to meet click the links below or in my sidebar :D
