What's Your Favourite Wool? Mine's Got To Be Noro.

It's November and I thought it really was time I shared with you a crocheted blanket that I gave you a sneak peek of in a post back in August.  The facts are simple - I'm working far too many hours at The City Quilter (currently 4 days a week) and as a result, I'm neglecting my blog, not being as creative as I want to be and opening my Etsy store is waaaay past my 1 June 2013 deadline.  These are all areas that need addressing but for the moment I'll just show you the blanket!

My finished blanket is made up of 16 x 15" granny squares and it's final made size is 65" square.

My favourite wool brand is Noro and this is NORO Kochoran Yarn #76 (50% Wool, 30% Angora, 20% Silk) bordered and joined with Filatura Lanarota Easy Wool #389 (76% Acrylic, 24% Wool)

It's wet and windy today so I resorted to taking photos on my balcony, trying to get some natural light, but there isn't room to lay the blanket out there so I had to hang it over my balcony door and oops I've just spotted that this photo below is actually the back of the blanket!

I've so many completed projects to share and it looks like I'm on borrowed time now weather wise to photograph them.  I'll keep grabbing my opportunities and hopefully my work/blog/creativity/business/home balance can be addressed before too long - does anyone know how to fit more hours in a day?!

  1. Ohhhhh, Chrissie - that is one heavenly looking blanket. I can see why it is your favourite yarn - its softness transfers in the photos. I adore your colour choices here and the fact that the colours in your blocks merge into each other. Just gorgeous.

    1. That's just what I love about Noro, how the colours merge, I made a sleeveless cardigan using it a while ago and I'm just crazy about the colourway. I love knitting and seeing what colour comes through on the needles next! :D

  2. Oh my! Your afghan is just stunningly scrumptious! The wool looks so silky soft, and I bet it is cozy to snuggle under! I absolutely love the colors you chose for this. I have not used this brand of thread before, but I may just have to go get some now that I have seen how lovely yours turned out. Just beautiful.

    1. Thanks Wendy, it really is soft and snuggly. Noro's not the cheapest wool out there but I got a pack of 10 skeins at Vogue Knitting Live - NYC back in January 2012 for a bargain $100. I used all 10 skeins making this and coming to the end of the wool determined the final size of the blanket!

  6. Hi Chrissie, what a beautiful blanket you crocheted! I love the deep dark colors used and it will keep you warm. I love Noro yarn and my mom just got finished crocheting a sweater coat for me using Noro yarn. At some point I need to make a blog post of that also! Have a wonderful fall weekend and TFS.

    1. I love the glass om the buildings around me something to do with being from St Helens in England, a town dominated by glass factories, namely Pilkingtons, Triplex and Fibreglass - my own apartment building is slighter bluer than the one in the photos and is called Aquablu. I have this week reduced my days at CQ to three, I do still love it but I want more time to be creative and to set up my own business too, hoping to find a better balance now :D

  23. What a beautiful blanket. I hope you have more time available to be creative again soon.

I don't know much about wool, but this looks beautiful and soft. My number one rule with wool is it shouldn't be itchy!

Your granny square blanket looks absolutely gorgeous with the softness and the colors you used. You'll have to show me how to do this! :) Did you get the yarn here or in the UK?
