Back in January, we had the best phone call from our son, Joe and his partner, Katie, to tell us they'd got engaged.
We're Getting Married - An Engagement Cushion
Visiting them in England in May I wanted to take them an engagement gift - as the Cushion Queen, a personalised cushion to match this quilt I made for them in 2016 seemed perfect.
That's them snuggling under the quilt on Christmas morning - it's my Just One Block quilt pattern, available free here on my blog.
Back now to the engagement cushion! I used the left-over fabrics from making the Just One Block quilt - it's the First Blush fabric collection by Ruby Red Designs for Windham Fabrics.
For the front of the cushion, I've the Bloom Chicka Boom block pattern by Kelly Young of My Quilt Infatuation from her Statement Stash book which I reviewed here.
this is the same block that I used previously for my Rainbow Scrappy Cushion.
I love how it gives focus to the central square which is fab for highlighting a fave photo transferred to fabric. If you haven't come across this photo fabric before, it's called Printed Treasures and you can print anything from your computer onto it and then use it in your quilts.
For the cushion back, I've made great use of the selvedge edges that I'd saved from the First Blush collection.
If you'd like to know more about making selvedge fabric follow my tute by clicking the image below.
After machine quilting the cushion front, I then added some white hand quilting.
The finished cushion has a scrappy wrapped piping and a red bottom seam zipper.
