If you're taking part in the IAQ Scavanger Hunt BOM, hi, and yes, you've found your April block.
What do you say we let everyone else in on what's going on?!
Throughout 2018 the International Association of Quilters (IAQ) are running a Scavenger Hunt BOM. On the first Wednesday of each month, the Guest Designer for the month releases a 9" (finished) block.
As the IAQ's Guest Designer for April (read more about it here), today it's my turn, and I'm sharing the tute for my HST Spinning 9" Block but, of course, you don't have to be an IAQ member to follow my tute and make the block too.
Possibly you're new to my blog; if so welcome, I'm Chris Dodsley, a sewing teacher blogging about my textile crafts and travel adventures here at made by ChrissieD. I love to share my tips, tutorials and projects, and I hope you'll take some time to have a look around - my right-hand sidebar is a great place to start.
Enough about me, now let's get on with the pattern; after all, that is why you're here 😆
HST Spinning 9" Block
Materials
Cut:
A: (8) 3-7/8" squares of solid fabric (I've used white)
B: (8) 3-7/8" squares of print fabric
C: (1) 3-1/2" square of print fabric
My fabrics:
I've used a white solid alongside the Dear Stella Welcome To The Jungle fabric collection.
Huge thanks to the girls at Cotton Cuts who, on request, filled my subscription box with this great collection for this project.
Pair each of the A + B (solid + print) fabrics, right sides together.
Sew each pair diagonally using the HST method I detail in the tute below - click the image, follow my instructions and don't forget to sew an extra line and earn yourself some 'bonus' HSTs!!!
Place HSTs as shown in the diagram below and sew together in 3 rows;
then join the 3 rows.
Press all seams open or to the side - to your preference.
Not sure which method to use when?
Here are links to some guides and tutes I've put together to help you make up your mind.
Trim block to 9-1/2" (unfinished) - it will measure 9" (finished) when it's sewn up into a quilt or pillow.
Here's a blank copy of the design that you can print out and use to colour/plan your own block.
