Have you heard of Cotton Cuts?

Back in October when Kim, founder of Cotton Cuts, asked if she could send me their October box in return for feedback on their service, I did a quick bit of internet research to answer that question for myself.

Cotton Cuts started in September 2016 and is one of numerous monthly subscription box services that are proving so popular these days - you can get anything from cosmetics, jewellery and even socks and I'm not a total newbie to the concept, I do subscribe to a weekly meal service and love it.

I've seen a few quilting boxes around the net but not found them attractive as they seem heavy on notions, many of which I already own or I'm not interested in, so I haven't been tempted to take the plunge.  Checking out the Cotton Cuts website, it seems a bit different - this box service supplies fabric and that peaks my interest much more.  So I said "yes" to Kim and the box arrived within days.

I was in Barcelona at the time, hence the delay in me opening the box, but when I did I knew that I wanted, not only to give Cotton Cuts my feedback but to share my experience here with you too.

So this is where I share exactly 'What's In The Box'...

...12 Fat Quarters - 2 block patterns - 1 quilt pattern

I requested 12 fat quarters but 20 fat eighths is another an option.

The block and quilt patterns aren't for me - this is in no way a judgement on them, it's because I design my own projects so won't use them.  They're a really nice addition to the box though for those who do use patterns - labelled easy/intermediate/hard the instructions are good with clear diagrams.

For your quilt pattern, you have a choice to download one of five patterns by a featured designer using the code on the included card - you'll see I've blacked it out in the image above.

Here is a closer look at the block patterns though I've blacked out the instructions and a couple of diagrams so I'm not giving all of Cotton Cuts' work away!

And this month's Lagniappe (Lan'yap), a little something extra, is this super cute zipper charm.
I love this charm so much I've already visited the bodobobags Etsy store to buy more.

So what are the fabrics like.

All are great quality, quilting weight cotton - florals and blenders, based on my preference info that Cotton Cuts requested so they could put my box together - everything's handpicked from that month's collections.  If you want more of a particular fabric you Cotton Cuts sell yardage too in their online store.

Am I pleased with the box - I'll give you a clue... I've subscribed now for 3 months!

The fabrics are great basics for anyone's stash and I was pleased to see a couple of yellows in there as I depleted my yellow stash when I paper pieced my seahorse earlier this year and it's not a colour I head for in the fabric aisle.  The beauty of this service I think is exactly that, you'll extend your fabric collection with a wider range of colours and prints than you would naturally be inclined to purchase for yourself.

So now I'm going to share some screen shots from the Cotton Cuts website - seems to me that there's no point in me typing up all the info you'll be wanting to know that's already available there!

Should you be considering subscribing, here are screen shots of the questions you'll be asked so Cotton Cuts can use your preferences to handpick fabrics for you.

Als,o I should give a quick mention here that you don't have to subscribe, you can buy just one box as a gift - as a treat for yourself or maybe for a birthday or Christmas pressie for another quilter in your life.

And here's the usual social media and contact info for Cotton Cuts:

  1. Thanks for this review, Chris. Although the price is beyond my budget, if I could afford it, it definitely looks like the one subscription service I'd sign up for, due to its focus on fabric--and good quality fabric, at that.

  2. Cotton Cuts would be my choice! I like being able to give some direction to the purchase. I had not joined other Box of the month clubs because I did not to receive fabric, patterns and notions that I would never use! Thanks for the info!
