Exploring London - The Village Haberdashery

I have spent the last 10 days in England, visiting friends old and new and I even squeezed in time for a bit of sewing.  An internet friend of several years, Trudi Wood, was teaching free motion quilting at The Village Haberdashery in West Hampstead, London so I met up with her and sat in on her class.

Even if you haven't heard of Trudi I know you'll have seen her work - in magazines, display quilts for fabric companies and quilting events far and wide Trudi is the queen of British long arm quilting and you can see more of her work here on Instagram and on her Quilting Prolifically blog.

It was a great group of students in the class and it was a fun day that Trudi and I topped off with afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason before we said goodbye, quilty friends really are the best :D

This was my first visit to The Village Haberdashery, I've ordered fabric from them online and had it delivered to my daughter, Flicky, in Scotland and I've wanted to go for several years but never made it so this was an extra bonus for my day.

Let's take a look around the store together.

Is this a cute store or what?  Staff are so helpful and even ordered lunch in for us from The Kitchen Table next door - can highly recommend it, absolutely delish sandwiches and soup and great coffee too.

  2. Wow what a shop, must admit have ordered online but never been to the shop, think a trip may be in order. As for Liberty's spent a lot of my youth in there shopping and browsing, as you do.

Have a safe journey home and pleased you loved our small island.

    1. I had the best trip back as I always do, making it very hard to fly back to the US again. I miss home and my family so much and maybe one day I'll be able to come back for good :D - Chris

  6. I could live in that shop for the rest of my days! There's so little of this in Portugal, I end up ordering almost anything online, so I really envy you! Thank you for sharing at The Really Crafty Link Party this week!

  7. Did I see yarn on those shelves too? If so, this shop seems to be "nirvana". Love your blog, love quilts (though don't make them but collect vintage ones).

    1. You certainly did see yarn - I held strong and steered clear because my yarn stash is worse than my fabric stash, thanks for your lovely comment about my blog :D - Chris

  8. What a great shop - I'll definitely seek it out next time I'm up 'in town' visiting my daughter. I'll need a whole train carriage for my shopping bags on the way home though!
