This month's NYC Mod Guild King Bee is Brian and he sent out this absolutely gorgeous package of blue and white fabrics. The instructions are taken from Block Party: The Modern Quilting Bee - June: Wonky Roman Stripe Block by Kristen Lejnieks.
It's really easy to put this block together, simply joining strip after strip to the other triangular half of the block.
The method's exactly the same as the one I used to create my Roses For A Drama Queen QAYG Quilt just without the batting.
Once you've pieced the strips together you iron a block size template of freezer paper over the fabric (I've drawn in a red dash line so you can see the freezer paper more easily) and cut the block to the perfect size.

And there's your block - well two of them actually!
These blocks are 15" square (that's the size of the freezer paper template that Brian included in the package) and there's lots of ways you can place them to create different quilt designs
How crisp, clean and amazing do these blocks look? That's going to be one fantastic quilt.
So I've made the blocks and think they look great but this is the point where I reread the instructions and realise that I've followed the Traditional Roman Stripe Block design instead of the Wonky Roman Stripe - I was supposed to be 'wonky' in sewing the strips together. Whoops, I was so busy thinking "this is easy", "this is just like making my Roses For A Drama Queen Quilt", "I'll have this done in no time" and other equally smug thoughts that I sewed all the strips straight and left out the 'wonky' element. Guess who's come down to earth with a bump? :(
I just hope Brian likes them and that in the overall scheme of the quilt they look perfectly wonky in their straightness.
