Exploring Upper East Side - (new look) Pins & Needles

There was bad news a few months ago for fabric shoppers in Manhattan when Pins & Needles on the Upper East Side suffered a flood.  It must have been heartbreaking for owner Rachel and her staff and she shared her news here on the P&N blog.

Warning - a bit of a soapbox moment:  I do want to mention how wonderful I think it is that Rachel supported her customers in her blog post by sharing details of other fabric stores in town where they can shop. I love it when businesses work together like this to provide fab service for their customers.  When travelling I love it when groups of quilt/fabric stores create maps detailing all the neighbourhood shops, such a great resource for visitors to the area - big tick from me to all stores who work this way.  I'd love to know if you agree, tell me in the comments :D

 Undeterred Rachel used the opportunity to freshen the place up with a new look. and when they reopened a couple of weeks ago I headed uptown to take a look for myself.  I'm delighted to report everything was just as wonderful as before, super crisp and clean and Flicky and I were able to acquire some great fabrics, threads and notions.

Not too much has changed but I'll let you take a look for yourselves.

This is such a great store and visitors to Manhattan can easily tag a trip here on to visiting The Met or Guggenheim, etc, without the family so much as noticing you've suddenly got large bags of fabric in your hands.  I once insisted on nipping in immediately after having a small procedure requiring a general anaesthetic at Lennox Hill Hospital which is very close by.  My husband thought I was nuts and I dread to think what rubbish I gabbed to the staff that day but I'm living proof that a determined fabric shopper will always find a way ;D
