Woven - A Textile Art Quilt

Introducing Woven - a textile art quilt.

Fabrics: Paula Nadelstern Palindromes and Metallica on a Kona solid black backing.  Sewn on Bernina 440QE using Aurifil 50/2 thread - Black 2692.

The backing is also solid black and the finished piece measures 23" x 35".

Woven is faced rather than bound.

And, as always, my label is on the back.

If you'd like to find out more about Paula Nadelstern you can read my previous blog post

Woven is currently on display at The City Quilter in Manhattan.

  1. I'm using this pattern for a woven look quilt at the moment for someone http://www.modabakeshop.com/2012/10/simply-woven-quilt.html - I hope it looks as nice as yours. I also want to do something woven with recycled ribbons .....

    1. Thanks Rachael, that's a great pattern by Jess - I love that it is a pieced quilt top that appears woven as compared to mine that is woven. I want to start using my Art & Design qualifications/skills more in my quilting - time to start breaking the rules I've learnt I think. Need to clear the decks of regular 'sewing/quilting' to free head space and time to be more creative! :D

    1. Don't think all that raw edge applique would hold up well in the wash Connie, thank goodness it's a wall hanging, I couldn't get away with it otherwise! :D

  9. I really like this little guy! I even like it hanging from the wooden clothes hanger. Silly I know, but it is so interesting.

  10. Very nice. The raw edges are a nice touch. I like that the back is just a simple black surface and that the design doesn't have to compete with a binding.

    1. Lol, yes, I work at The City Quilter in Chelsea, Manhattan - I teach classes, sell Bernina sewing machines and work the shop floor. I learnt restraint, though I don't think my husband would agree ;D

  21. Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I like your interwoven piece here. When I watch old reruns of Mary Tyler Moore there is a picture in the background that I would love to translate to a quilt. It is woven. Its in may scenes and my eyes are just drawn to it.

  26. Love the prints and colours for this design, it really works! Great quilt!

Not sure about the raw edges. How do they tolerate washing?

    1. Thanks Ann. You're right about the edges, they wouldn't tolerate washing - if it was a regular quilt I would treat the raw edges with Fray Block or a similar product but this isn't necessary here as this is a textile art quilt for display only so it should never be washed or dry cleaned. Hung out of sunlight it should keep it's colour for years and can be hoovered with reduced suction using a brush. If necessary it can be damp sponged very lightly. :D
