What a sweet line-up of FPP patterns I'm sharing today.
Juliet @The Tartankiwi is working on a series of FPP birds and, this week, I've tested two versions of her NZ Wren.
As I always say, don't be scared of foundation paper piecing (FPP) - jump in and have a go and you'll soon get the hang of it and love the results. Again, not all FPP patterns are equal. There's a lot to be said for a well-designed pattern, it makes life soooo much easier for the sewist and produces fabulous results and, for me, Juliet is the Queen of FPP design and her patterns are thoroughly tested before they are made available to purchase.

FPP PATTERN TESTING FOR THE TARTANKIWI
See how I colour my FPP sections - it makes it really easy to know which fabric to use where.
I have lots of FPP tips to help you and you can find them all along with many more useful tutorials by clicking the button below.
When the NZ Wren pattern is released it will include 6" and 12" versions of both a left and right facing wren. There are also two versions of one section of the pattern allowing you to chose between an NZ Wren on a rock or an NZ Wren on a pole.

Juliet asked me to test the 12" left facing NZ Wren on a pole.
If you make several birds on a pole they'll all line up. I believe Juliet is placing all birds in her new blocks in the same position so you can have different types of birds lined up on that pole too - how cute will that be?!
The pole version of the NZ Wren doesn't look right with the other FPP blocks I've already made for a quilt top I'm working on so, after I'd tested the pattern and photographed it, I replaced the pole section of the block with the alternate rock section.
As I was taking a pic of all the blocks I've made so far for that quilt top, I realised there's a block that I have quite forgotten to share with you. It's a badger from Juliet's early FPP days, he's simple yet stunning.
And here is the quilt top line up so far.
Juliet's Badger and NZ Wren patterns are now available to purchase via her pattern store.
Looking for further inspiration below are the other FPP patterns I've tested for Juliet previously:

Have you tried FPP? If not have I inspired you to give it a go!? If you have, have you sewn up one of Juliet's patterns? Don't you agree they're the best? Let me know in the comments 😊

I like the idea of a whole row of different birds on a pole! I have to agree with you Chris that Juliet's patterns are the best she makes FPP so straightforward too :)
ReplyDeleteAll blocks are so pretty, thank you for sharing them at The Really Crafty Party. Pinned.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a sweet lineup! I particularly favor the little bird.
